EXCERPT

Ruth slapped the window to gain the woman’s attention. “Hey, I’m talking to you! What in the hell is wrong with you? Are you blind or something?”

The tan-faced woman looked at her with a distant, unconcerned look. Her children were crying and they both had rotten faces covered with snot and tears.

Ruth pounded the window a second time and the tan-faced woman mouthed the words I’m sorry. The insincere gesture only intensified Ruth’s anger and she pounded on the hood of the car.

“You know what, you little bitch, why don’t you get out of the car so I can give you what you deserve for almost killing me!”

Ruth pulled on the door handle and it was locked.

The tan-face woman turned to calm her children and seemed hardly concerned by Ruth’s outbursts.

“You think you can ignore me?” Ruth said.

She backed up three steps and hopped twice before she planted her foot on the front quarter panel of the car. In front of the wheel, the metal bent inwards and the vehicle rocked from the force of the blow.

Ruth laughed as she inspected the damage her kick had left behind. She pointed at the dent and turned her attention to the driver. “You see? That’s just what you deserve! Now get out of the car and do something about it!”

Tour Stop | Broken Strings by Nancy Means Wright

Book Title: Broken Strings
Author: Nancy Means Wright
Release Date: May 7, 2013
Genre: Mystery
Publisher: GMTA Publishing, LLC
Presented by: As You Wish Tours

BRIEF SYNOPSIS

When puppeteer Marion collapses during a performance of Sleeping Beauty, her friend Fay Hubbard promises to carry on. But Fay already has her hands full with three demanding foster children, Apple and Beets, who have a fractious jailbird father—and sixteen-year-old Chance, who has a crush on a much older guy in a band called Ghouls. And now Marion’s husband Cedric seems more interested in a drop-dead-gorgeous French teacher than in any string puppets. And who is the mysterious Skull-man who warns of death if the show goes on with one of Marion’s offbeat endings? When an autopsy reveals that Marion had swallowed a dose of deadly crushed yew—and a friend finds her sister dangling from a rod like a marionette, a shocked Fay goes after the killer.

Excerpt

“Bury,” Fay murmured. Marion had been cremated after the autopsy, half of her ashes buried in the local cemetery, the rest thrown in Lake Dunmore, as she’d asked in the unofficial will Cedric agreed to honor. There were ten of them standing around, each saying a few words about Marion. What had Puss said? Something about Marion at Glastonbury? Fay would have to talk to Puss.

Was it suicide, as the police thought? Had Marion poisoned her own drink? Oh, no way, Fay thought. “What did your brother do with the yew he brought back?” she asked Sammy. “I mean, how did he get it through customs?”

Sammy grinned, a dimple in her chin. She looked at Hal and he laughed. “Of course, illegally. He probably wore it inside his boxers.”

“You knew Marion then?” Fay pursued.

“Not really. Well, I met her once somewhere but never got to know her. I heard about her death,” she said, lowering her voice. Sammy was a pretty woman, with a sweet, high-pitched voice. “Terrible thing.”

Sammy kept a yew stick by her back door, she told Fay. “It wards off evil.” Then someone tapped her on the shoulder and she excused herself and moved on.

Evidently, Marion kept her yew stick with the rest of the marionettes. Evil had crept in through the back door.

Or was it the local school door?

Splash Into Summer Blog Tour

Title: Son of a Mermaid
Author: Katie O' Sullivan
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy Romance
Published May 2013 by Crescent Moon Press

Book Blurb:
Shea MacNamara's life just got complicated.

After a freak tornado devastates his Oklahoma farm, the fifteen-year-old orphan moves to Cape Cod to live with a grandmother he's never met. Struggling to make sense of his new surroundings, he meets a girl along the shore who changes his life forever.

Kae belongs to an undersea world hidden from drylanders. The daughter of royal servants, she knows the planned marriage of her Princess to the foreign King should put an end to the war between the clans. Two things stand in the way of lasting peace: an ambitious Regent and rumors of a half-human child who will save the oceans.

Sparks fly when she meets Shea, but could the cute drylander really be the Son of a Mermaid?

Excerpt:
The blue-green coolness swirled around him as his body tumbled down through the water, arms and legs flailing as he struggled to hold his breath. Millions of tiny bubbles of precious air traced the path of his descent, escaping from his clothing and through his nose.

Eyes wide even as the water rushed past, he watched a huge school of shimmering minnows part down the middle as they swam around him, surrounding him like a silvery box. Turning his face upward to the surface, he could see the blue sky receding further and further as he sank deeper into the water’s depths.

His throat and lungs burned from the effort of holding his breath. Darkness pressed hard against his eyes, and swirls of strange colors danced in front of him as his whole body strained against the lack of oxygen.

I need to breathe, he thought wildly, his whole body feeling like it was on fire. I can’t hold out much longer. His feet finally hit the mucky bottom with a thud, coming to a stop as the mud swirled around his legs.

There, hovering before him in the water, swam a beautiful woman with flowing golden hair…and a green fish tail that sparkled with golden flecks among the scales.

A mermaid.

Her big green eyes looked so familiar, like the ones he saw in the mirror every morning. She smiled at him, reaching out to take his hand. His head pounded as searing pain ripped through his throat, as if his entire body would tear apart any second from the effort of holding his breath.

The mermaid squeezed his hand and nodded. The pain receded as Shea stared into her eyes, lost in their green depths. As she nodded to him again, he opened his mouth to exhale the stale air that pounded like a jackhammer in his lungs. Large bubbles rushed to the surface as he struggled to breathe, but there was no air to be had. Only salty ocean water rushing in to fill his mouth, his lungs, his body...

Shea woke with a start, clawing at the sheets and disoriented for a full minute before remembering where he was. At the Hansen’s house. Because his own home – the farm where he’d lived and worked all his life – was gone, swept away and crushed by the freak tornado.

Review:
Son of a Mermaid is a very enjoyable book filled with vivid descriptions of Cape Cod and the ocean. I love how Katie describes the ocean life and gives the reader a whole new outlook on life in the ocean. I could picture myself swimming side by side with the fish and Kae. I could also smell the salt water and feel the breeze as if I were laying on the sand letting the sun warm my cheeks. Beautifully written for a YA and the young at heart.

Original storyline and loveable characters. This book has the whole package. I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to read a really fun and entertaining book.

For the last four years, she’s been the Editor of CapeWomenOnline.com magazine and writes a column entitled “The Write Way.”

Bemused and Bedeviled: Terpsichore in Love

Book Title: Bemused and Bedeviled: Terpsichore in Love
Author: John Tucker
Release Date: May 15, 2013
Genre: Supernatural Romance/Comedy
Publisher:
Presented by:
Bemused and Bedeviled Dream Cast
Here's what I would consider the dream actors for my books if they were ever made into a television series. For the sakes of the network involved, I hope they can afford them. :-)

Terpischore (Terri) - Blake Lively Why? Blake is beautiful and can play a sweet but arrogant person simultaneously. Terpischore in a nutshell.

Dan Gordon – Andrew Garfield – likable, everyman looks, and talented.

Calliope – Nora Zehetner – Beautiful, doe-eyed, and can play a troubled character well.

Euterpe (Butterfly)- Sanaa Lathan – Perfect look for a sweet but ditzy character.

Father – Clark Gregg – He'd have to wear the requisite beard but he has what I'd call a great look for a Creator.

Lucifer – Christian Kane – Satan was the handsomest angel in paradise before his fall. He'd have to have a silver wig and goatee though.

Clio – Amy Adams - Awesome actress who could handle Clio's lines with a snap

Polyhymnia (Polly) - Felicia Day – Awesome actress who typifies Polly's sass and quirkiness with a snap

Celestia - Lindsay Lohan – Perfect actress for an angry, bitter, self-destructive Siren

Calypso – Maggie Q – Beautiful and can easily play a devious, understated villain like Calypso

Chanteuse – Meagan Good – Lovely actress who can play a carefree, but self-centered Siren with an agenda.

Melpomene (MeMe) - Eva Mendes – Sexy, and seductive without trying hard. She is the perfect Melpomene.

Thalia - Ziyi Zhang – Asian actress who embodies the standoffish Muse.

BLURB
The nine traditional Greek Muses, who are now living on Earth, find their everyday lives disrupted by the appearance of a mysterious mortal who is developing powers beyond human capabilities. After Dan Gordon falls in love with Terpischore, he finds himself in the midst of a power struggle between the forces of Heaven and the denizens of Hades – with the winner claiming his heart and soul.

Bemused and Bedeviled takes you into the drama-filled lives of the nine sisters, headed up by the impetuous Terpischore, oversexed Melpomene, irascible Calliope, and the impossibly cheerful Euterpe. On the dark side, Lucifer and his three Sirens – the level-headed Calypso, wrathful Celestia, and the effervescent Chanteuse – deal with their own darker issues. The representatives of good and evil vie for Dan’s loyalty and allegiance, despite family issues that threaten to rip the very fabric of the universe apart.

AUTHOR BIO

John. D. Tucker is a longtime Georgia native who began writing at the age of forty-three. He has self-published three novels: Divisive – a psychological crime thriller, The Little Girl You Kiss Goodnight – a young adult mystery, and Romancing the Fox – a contemporary romance/drama. He seems to be becoming a jack of all genres with his first novel under the GMTA banner – Terpischore in Love (Bemused and Bedeviled Book One) a romantic comedy filled with mythological characters interacting with contemporary mortals.

BLURB

FBI Special Agent Jack Matthews finds himself on yet another serial killer case, having barely recovered from the last disastrous hunt. Still stiff from a gun shot wound in his leg, under investigation for a botched job, and having lost his fiancĂ©e when she walked out on him, Jack is beginning to wonder if it isn’t time to move on to something new. But, for Jack, these cases are personal and he can’t say no.

Marketing specialist Kathy Gilliam leads a fairly boring life. If she’s not working or caring for her ailing father, then she is doing whatever it takes to avoid going anywhere near crowds of people. Her few distractions include her friend Margo Longfellow, occasional hiking trips, and her increasingly alarming dreams of women dying.

As her nightmares cause her to begin to doubt her sanity, the media releases news of the “Coast-to-Coast Killer” and Kathy discovers her dreams may be related. In a moment of panic, Kathy does something that places her on the FBI’s “persons of interest” list. Suddenly, her life is set on a collision course with Jack who must decide if Kathy is the killer or destined to become a victim.

EXCERPT

Kathy Gilliam bolted up in bed with the echo of her own screams dying in her ears. Her chest tightened and she tried to draw a breath.

Fear. Someone screaming. She was screaming. No. Someone else. Someone running ... someone ...

For a moment, panic set in.

Fear. Pain.

Kathy took deep, shuddering breaths until the tightness in her chest began to relax. She looked around, still disoriented. Then a different panic seized.

Turning quickly to the digital clock by her bedside, she noted that the ever failing Atlanta power had managed to remain on during the night. It was five a.m. She hadn't overslept again.

Drawing another deep breath, she tried to shake off the vestiges of yet another nightmare, the same one that had been haunting her on and off for years. Though she could recall little detail, it was the eyes she always remembered. They were always different and yet the same in their reflection of fear.

Deciding she would not be able to get back to sleep, she rose and went into the kitchen to make coffee before heading to the bathroom for a long shower.

As she stepped out of the shower, Kathy felt the last images of her dream fading. Slipping on the long terry cloth robe that swallowed her small, five-foot-two frame, she reached for a towel to clean the condensation from the mirror and began applying her makeup. Though paler than normal, her olive skin looked well enough to skip the base and she decided to apply only liner and mascara to her dark brown eyes and a little blush. As the steam started to fog the mirror once more, Kathy reached for the bathroom door when she caught the glimpse of a strange, terror-stricken woman.

Her hand froze on the knob. As she watched, the face quickly became obscured with steam. Shaking her head, she reached for the towel to clear the mirror and found only her own wide-eyed image reflected back at her. Kathy flung the door open, shivering from the sudden draft, and turned to finish her makeup. Obviously, her sleep-deprived mind was playing tricks on her. Finished, she pulled her still wet, brown hair into a ponytail and headed to the bedroom to dress.

Wishing she could have just one night that was dream and worry free.

“Talk about hell on earth…”

Sekhmet’s life was pretty good; you know for a goddess. Her job was simple – kill those that sought to go against the creator. It was a job she was good at but unfortunately got a little too carried away with when she almost single handedly wiped out mankind. For her penance she has spent the last thousand years serving as one of the Guardians; a group of immortals that protect mankind and led by the Goddess Isis – who kind of had her own anger issues.

The Azura, a league of immortal bad asses, are literally trying to bring hell on earth and with it, Set – the banished God and ruler of the Makhaut. For the first time in history and with the help of the Makhaut, they may actually pull it off. Even the Guardians are at a loss.

In the Hail Mary of all attempts to save the world Isis, now going by Isira, sends Sekhmet to New Orleans, to find and protect the “Key” but when it is determined that a traitor lies among the Guardians, Sekhmet, now going by the name of Syn, is forced to seek help in the most unlikely of places…her least favorite person and fellow Guardian…Malachi.

EXCERPT: (from the all-new story "FANtasy")
After pressing the button for the 53rd floor, Zach quickly flashed a glance over at the mystery beauty and acknowledged her with a polite smile and a calm “You’re welcome”. Once he had done so, he tried to avert his eyes to avoid making her feel uncomfortable. Zach looked up at the ceiling of the elevator….mirrors. Then he glanced over at the back wall of the elevator….mirrors. But what he saw in them was the reflection of a beautiful stranger with a stare planted firmly on him. He finally dropped his head to pretend he was looking at the floor of the elevator, only there was a problem with that….more mirrors! Now if he stared too long at the floor of the elevator, he could be accused of trying to peep up the slinky black dress of his guest in the elevator. There was simply no way he could avoid looking at her.
Her petite voice pierced the awkward silence once more. “72nd floor?” she questioned.
Zach was hoping to be there soon, so he could avoid any more awkward conversation. He glanced up at the digital floor-counter above the elevator doors. 9th floor! This awkward conversation was just beginning. With that he turned his attention to the mystery beauty opposite him in the elevator.
“Yep, that’s me!” he said shyly as he met her eyes with his.
“Isn’t everything above the 70th floor a suite or a penthouse?” she curiously mused.
“I honestly have no idea miss. This is my first time ever staying here.”
Her curiosity began to grow more now. She started to eye Zach up and down to get a good look at him. Zach suddenly became uneasy because he knew how this always ended for him. Or at least he thought he did. As he expected her too, the mysterious woman ceased to relent with her questioning.
“Say….you must be someone important if you’re staying on the 72nd floor,” she pondered out loud.
“Or have a good night at the blackjack tables!” he quickly joked.
The momentary laughter their shared over that statement served to ease Zach’s tension for only a matter of minutes. Zach didn’t know what to say next and neither did the mystery beauty. He glanced up again at the floor-counter above the doors, thinking he had successfully dodged a bullet. 14thfloor! This elevator was quickly becoming a prison of sorts and Zach’s anxiety grew. He wondered the likelihood of them making it to the 53rd floor before the inevitable happened. Probably not he thought to himself. He glanced back over at his co-pilot on this magic carpet ride and found her still intently fixated on him with her stare.
“So Mr. Lucky-at-blackjack…..what’s your name?” she politely asked.
“Zach,” he responded.
“That’s funny,” she noted. “I drove up today for a book-signing at the book shop on the other side of the resort. The author’s name was Zachary Disdain,” she smirked.
“You don’t say?” Zach said with a twinge of sarcasm.
“Yeah, you know the romance author, Zachary Disdain?”
“No ma’am….can’t say as I know him.”
“I suppose not,” the mystery woman suggested. “Most men don’t read romance novels anyways.”
“You can say that again!” Zach quickly joked.
