Review: The Chapel Wars by Lindsey Leavitt

Title: The Chapel Wars
Author: Lindsey Leavitt
Pages: 304
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Summary: Sixteen-year-old Holly wants to remember her Grandpa forever, but she’d rather forget what he left her in his will: his wedding chapel on the Las Vegas strip. Whatever happened to gold watches, savings bonds, or some normal inheritance?  And then there's Grandpa's letter. Not only is Holly running the business with her recently divorced parents, but she needs to make some serious money—fast. Grandpa also insists Holly reach out to Dax, the grandson of her family's mortal enemy and owner of the cheesy chapel next door. No matter how cute Dax is, Holly needs to stay focused: on her group of guy friends, her disjointed family, work, school and... Dax. No wait, not Dax.  Holly’s chapel represents everything she’s ever loved in her past. Dax might be everything she could ever love in the future. But as for right now, there's a wedding chapel to save.
Review: I received this book free from Goodreads First Reads in exchange for an honest review.  This is the first novel that I have read by Leavitt, but it won't be the last. She has this uncanny ability to have you laughing but feeling sad at the same time. I loved the plot of this story because it was so unique for a young adult novel. I was entertained throughout this read. Because it was so entertaining I was able to finish it off in just a few short hours. I really enjoyed all of these characters, especially Grandpa Jim even though we didn't actually meet him, but I know if I did, I would have loved him. I also enjoyed the lesson that villains aren't always as bad as we perceive them to be. I liked that there were so many different relationships both romantic and not that were going on. Each relationship was unique and added to the overall story. I loved this Romeo and Juliet esque book! I will be picking up more novels by this author. I would recommend this novel to contemporary lovers.
